  • What's a Nice Kid Like You Doing at Home on a School Day?

My husband and I began homeschooling in the late 80′s when it was still a pretty radical notion. Here’s our story and some of what we learned along the way about kids, discipline, instilling self-confidence, and more. This article also makes an easy-to-read defense for homeschooling--good to give well-meaning but skeptical family members and friends who don’t want to read a whole book but who need more than a just 10 minutes of an explanation.

  • A recommended FREE E-BOOK for girls age 8-11

This is relatively random, but I loved this book as a child and was sad to find it had gone out of print. My sisters and I had to alternate possession of our one family copy. So I was really thrilled when I discovered it as a free online download and decided to link it on my website as well to let other moms know about it. It is a classic children's novel for girls age 8-11 (and a great read-to for younger ones)-- The Adventures of Mabel by H. Thursten Peck.

The You Tube videos that follow were initially put up for my high school world history classes, but I've had such good comments on them that I kept them here for anyone who is interested.

Richard Feynman was a Harvard professor, physicist, and Nobel prize winner (1965) with a great sense of humor. This brief video is one of several on You Tube that consist of old interviews and lectures of his on various physics topics and conundrums. Below: Richard Feynman on what keeps a train on its tracks. There's more to it than you'd think.
